What is the Awalé app?
Awalé is a digital version of the traditional African seed-sowing strategy board game also known as Oware or Waré (Mancala family). The goal is to capture more seeds than your opponent through strategic sowing and captures.
What game modes are available in Awalé?
The app offers 3 modes: Awalé 6, Awalé 12, and Awalé 32 (the traditional board). You can play 2 players on the same device or play against an AI with 3 difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, Hard).
How do captures work in Awalé?
On your turn, you pick up all seeds from one of your holes and sow them one by one into subsequent holes. If your last seed lands in an opponent’s hole that then contains exactly 2 or 3 seeds, you capture those seeds.
What is the “famine rule” in Awalé?
You are not allowed to make a move that completely empties the opponent’s side (i.e., you cannot starve the opponent). This is described in the app’s rules as the “règle de la famine.”
Can I customize the game experience?
Yes. The app lets you choose from 5 different seed designs, includes sound and African-inspired background music (e.g., flute, kora, djembé), and supports light and dark interface modes.
